BURY ACAPEELERS INTRODUCTION
Website: Buryacapeelers.co.uk
Singing is an uplifting experience, it clears the mind, banishes the blues, elevates the spirit, gladdens the heart, nourishes the mind.
We are an a cappella choir (voice only) though we do occassionally perform with bands. We started in March 2009 at The Met Theatre, Bury with 18 members. We moved to Bury parish church meeting rooms in 2010 and slowly our membership numbers have grown; by November 2011 we had 60 choir members.
We are a performance focused choir and as such all members are expected to perform with us at least once a year.
We welcome anyone from the age of 12yrs and upwards. We have a child protection policy and a vulnerable adults policy, we have a designated child protection officer as well as several choir members who are CRB checked. We prefer anyone under the age of 16yrs to be accompanied by an adult.
We are a constituted community group and are run by an elected committee of volunteers.
Our MD is Eleanor Hill a music graduate and a member of the Natural Voice Practioners Network (www.naturalvoice.net)
We sing at local events around Bury, fundraising events, Summer and Christmas Fairs, weddings, funerals, special events and services, both civic and religious and also take part in the annual National Street Choir Festival which we are hosting in Bury from 13th - 15th July 2012. See our website for further information on this http//streetchoit2012.weebly.com
We are very grateful to The Community Foundation for Greater Manchester and Bury MBC who gave us financial support in our first year (2009/2020) which helped us get off the ground.
We are also extremely grateful to Bury Merto Arts Association for their continuing support of our vision of a community choir in Bury that is formed by members of the local community, for the community.
