24-hour advice line
Bury Hospice launches 24-hour advice line
Bury Hospice is launching a new 24-hour advice line to provide round-the-clock care and support to patients, family members, carers and healthcare professionals.
The new service will go live on Monday 28 February 2011.
One off funding has been provided by the Greater Manchester and Cheshire Cancer Network, after the network identified that there was a gap in the service provision of a dedicated advice line in the Bury area.
Bury Hospice put in a bid to run the service and was chosen by the Greater Manchester and Cheshire Cancer Network to run the advice line.
Bury Hospice is the main provider of end of life care in the area and the 0845 408 1891 advice line will be available to anyone living in the borough of Bury.
The advice line will be able to provide direct access to a fully trained and highly experienced palliative care nurse. They can give advice on symptoms or general issues if people are finding it difficult to cope.
Healthcare professionals may use the service to call about more complex issues on patient care.
Eloise Burke, Clinical Services Manager for Bury Hospice, said: “If you are a patient or caring for someone with a life-limiting illness often it’s the middle of the night or when other professionals are not available that you need to talk the most.
“We will be offering telephone access and support 24 hours a day, 365 days a year with advice on a range of problems and symptoms.
“By being there when you need us, we aim to prevent some of the crisis situations that may happen when carers or patients feel alone.”
The advice line is for additional support or if you need a question answering. I It is not an emergency service and in such circumstances people need to call 999.
All calls to the advice line will be charged at a local rate, mobile phone charges may vary.
