Car crashes into a Whitefield pub

Fire crews rescued a 60-year-old lady from a car which collided with a pub in Whitefield this morning (Friday July 2010).

A spokesperson for the fire service said: “At 9:37am Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service were called to a road traffic collision involving a four wheel drive vehicle which had collided into a public house on Bury New Road in the Whitefield area of Bury.
“On arrival at the address fire crews rescued a 60 year old lady from the vehicle, who was taken to hospital by ambulance suffering from shock. One other vehicle was involved though no one else was injured.”

Fire crews used specialist equipment to support the front of the building which had become unstable as a result of the incident and specialist teams are remaining in attendance carrying out further work to make the building safe.

As a result of the incident Bury New Road remains closed heading towards Manchester prior to junction 17.
