Spotlight on Ramsbottom - Ramsbottom Pool League

Reporter: Marcus Chippindale
Date online: 05 December 2010

The Ramsbottom Pool League has been running for over 25 years since it was established by Bill Talbot, who remains an active member of the committee today.

League matches take place at various locations in and around Ramsbottom during the two seasons each year, held during the summer and winter.

There are a variety of games played, including singles, pairs and team knock-out competitions.

For the team matches there are currently about five sides that are involved, each consisting of an average of six players.

The League has two Final’s Nights a year, where anyone can go along to watch the Singles Semi Finals, Pairs Final and the Singles Final, with the latest of these taking place in October at the Hamers Arms in Summerseat.

Carl Pemberton, who is part of the League’s committee, said: “The Final’s Night always makes for a good evening and allows players from all teams to get together on one evening.”

The club is open to anyone, with men and women from 18 to over 60 currently getting involved.

Mr Pemberton said: “It is a diverse league in terms of age and ability.”

Matches consist of five singles games, which are three frames long, and two doubles, which are just a single frame.

Games are played on a Tuesday at 8.00pm.

The League is always looking for new venues and teams. Anyone interested in getting involved should contact Bill Talbot on 07799 732 994.
