Bookies robbed

Date published: 19 December 2011

A betting shop was robbed in Bury.

At around 5.50pm on Saturday 17 December 2011, a man holding a large kitchen knife walked into Taylormade Betting on Manchester Road, Whitefield.

He approached a member of staff and demanded she open the safe.

She refused and he attacked her, causing cuts to her chest and right arm.

She managed to break free and alert the owner of a nearby shop before she called the police.

The man escaped with a quantity of cash and drove off in a dark coloured car.

The man is described as being Asian, 5ft 8in tall, of slim build and had a distinctive scar on his left eye. He was wearing black clothing, a balaclava and gloves.

Detective Constable Garry Hayhurst from Bury CID said: “The victim was obviously shocked and terrified to see a man walk into the shop with a dangerous weapon but, despite this ordeal, she has managed to pick out a distinctive feature of this man.

“If anyone recognises the description of the offender or was in the area at the time and saw him drive off, I would urge them to contact police.”

Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 8162 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
