Take care at cash points urge police

Date published: 01 November 2011

Officers from the Prestwich and Whitefield Neighbourhood Policing Team have stepped up patrols following thefts near to cash points in the area.

There have been two incidents where men have attempted to snatch money from people using the cash points at both the Longfield Centre and Bury New Road.

The reported incidents took place at Natwest and Barclays banks in Prestwich between 3pm and 5pm on Sunday 30 November. The offenders were described as of eastern European, possibly Asian, appearance.

Neighbourhood officers are advising people to remain vigilant when using cash points and report anything suspicious to the police.

Inspector Mark Kenny said: “Watch out for anybody loitering near to the cash point and try to withdraw money during the day rather than in the evening. It’s also important to check that there are no suspicious devices attached to the cash point.”
