Golfers back Mayor's charity day

Local charities will be more than £1,000 better off thanks to the Mayor of Bury’s annual charity golf competition.

Bury Council employees, business partners and suppliers raised the money in the 22 annual tournament, held at Stand Golf Club in Whitefield.

All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Mayor’s charities, Bury Hospice and Boomerang.

The mayor, Cllr Yvonne Creswell, said: “I would like to express my sincere thanks to all the sponsors of this year’s event, to Stand Golf Club for very kindly allowing us to use their course and to all the local businesses for their generous donations for the raffle. Once again valuable funds have been raised for local charities and a pleasant day was had by all. I nearly got a hole in one – although that was on the practice putting green!”

During the evening, the Mayor and the Mayor’s Consort attended a presentation dinner where golf prizes were awarded and donated gifts were raffled.
