Big turn out for Team Bury Rugby League!

Date published: 27 July 2011

Over 30 children turned out on Monday for the second Bury Street Games Rugby League session held at Victoria Park, Whitefield.

The FREE sessions are ran by the Bolton, Bury and Rochdale Rugby League Development Group and are supported by Bury Council, Bury Broncos and Swinton Lions.

The project is running for 6 weeks on Monday evenings, 5.30-6.30 and is targeting boys and girls aged 7-11(although all are welcome!). The sessions will culminate with attendees being invited to represent Team Bury in the North West Street Games festival, being held at the City of Manchester stadium on Friday 26th August.

Ryan Bradley, Community Rugby League Manager for Bolton, Bury and Rochdale commented: "The sessions are ran with a rugby theme, but follow the ethos of Street Games, by providing door step accesible to all. The sessions include alternative, non contact versions of Rugby League including tag rugby, kick tennis and rugby rounders, which have gone down really well with the local kids. We had 14 in the first week and 31 this week, showing that word is getting around and the kids are enjoying it".

All of the participants at this weeks session recieved an offer of family tickets for the upcoming Swinton Lions Vs Keighley Cougars fixture at the Willows, Salford, which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports on Thursday 4th August.

Following on from the kids, an adults touch rugby session is also being ran 6.30-7.30 at the same venue. A Touch Rugby promotion is being held at Fairfield Hospital this week, which will see hospital staff take to the field in the fun, non contact version of the game o monday 1st August. Individuals or teams are welcome to come down and give Rugby Leagues answer to 5-a-side a try. The game is non contact, fun and great for fitness, meaning enthusiasts or rugby beginners alike can take to the field together for a social run out.
