Woman arrested following abandoned baby reports

A 28-year-old woman from Whitefield, Bury, has been arrested on suspicion of concealment of birth following reports that a baby had been left by the side of a road in Edenfield, near Rochdale.

Information was received that a young woman had given birth and left her baby wrapped in a blanket in a bag by the side of Rochdale Road.

Officers attended and found a bag containing a blanket, a lady's purple top and an amount of blood.

The woman will be questioned by officers throughout the day.

Enquiries are continuing in order to establish exactly what has happened.
