Officers in Whitefield serve up festive cheer

Date published: 24 December 2010

Older and vulnerable people living in Whitefield were given a bit of extra Christmas cheer at an event organised by police at the Elms community centre.

Officers from the Whitefield Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT), together with offenders taking part in the Community Payback scheme, served up a Christmas meal to residents at the centre. The NPT also took the opportunity to offer some useful advice to residents on how to make themselves less vulnerable to crime over the festive period.

The event took place on Thursday 16 December at the Green Lane premises.

Inspector Mark Kenny of the Whitefield Neighbourhood Policing Tame said: “Christmas is a time of year when we are encouraged to think of others and serving the meal was an excellent opportunity for us to talk to residents and bring different sections of the community together.

“We are keen to hear from the residents to ensure that our service is focussed on the needs of our communities, addressing the issues that matter so we can make Whitefield a safer place in which to live, work and visit.

“If members of the public have a policing issue, I would urge them to contact us on 0161-856-8204 or email whitefield.npt@gmp.police.uk
