Be the first to find out the Local Election 2010 results in Bury here. We will have live commentary from the count at Castle Leisure Centre from 1pm today and the results of each ward online as soon they are announced.

Your new look Bury Council looks as follows. The Conservatives have 23 seats, down three, Labour have 20 seats, up four, and the Lib Dems have lost one seat and now have eight. There you have it, a great afternoon for Labour and a hung council.

The final result is in. Radcliffe North has elected Labour's Jane Lewis to replace Sharon Briggs, who is standing down.

Comfortable double Conservative win in Pilkington Park - Bernie Vincent has retained his seat, and will be joined on the council by Robert Caserta, who takes the place of retired councillor Peter Redstone. Final result on its way.

In Ramsbottom, Ian Bevan has retained the seat for the Conservatives. He will replace Diana Ashworth who is standing down.

More good news for Labour - they've taken another Conservative seat. This time, Sandra Walmsley has beaten Peter Ashworth in Moorside.

Another Labour gain, this time in Radcliffe East. Nick Parnell has unseated Conservative councillor Catherine Berry by 150 votes.

Four of those five ward results are coming up now.

That leaves five more ward results to be announced, with two councillors to be elected from Pilkington Park. Labour have so far achieved gained two council seats, taking one each from the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats.

Results coming thick and fast now. In Elton ward, Michael Hankey retains his seat for the Conservative Party, holding off a strong challenge from Labour's James Frith to triumph by just over 200 votes. In North Manor, James Taylor has a more comfortable hold for the Conservatives, retaining his seat to mark the day's fourth win for the party.

Leader of the council Bob Bibby has comfortably retained his seat in Church ward for the Conservatives.It's their first win of the day but they don't have long to wait for the next as Tottington's Iain Gartside retains his seat immediately afterwards.

The votes for Sedgley have just been announced and it's the closest vote so far with just over 250 votes seperating the three candidates. Labour candidate Alan Quinn has unseated Liberal Democrat Andrew Garner, with Jonathan Grosskopf for the Conservative Party in third place.

In Unsworth, the first gain of the day, for Labour, Ann Audlin has ousted Conservative Bev Sullivan by less than 200 votes.

Lib Dem's Tim Pickstone retains his seat in Holyrood.

Rishi Shori has retained his seat for Labour in Radcliffe West. Tamoor Tariq has bben elected for Labour to the Redalves ward, replacing Farooq Chaudhry who stood down.

Kenneth Audin comfortably retains his seat for Labour in the Besses ward. No surprises so far.

Trevor Holt of Labour comfortably retains his seat in East Ward.

St Mary's is the first result in. Liberal Democrat Donal O'Hanlon has held the seat.

It doesn't look like it will be long before the first results will be announced in the Bury Council Elections 2010.

MP for Bury South Ivan Lewis is in the building, fresh from fighting off competition from Conservative Pilkington Park councillor Michelle Wiseman in the General Election. There was an 8% swing to the Tories but it wasn't enough for the seat to change hands.

The atmosphere is building up, as the count is well underway.

We have arrived at Castle Leisure Centre and the final preparations are being made before the count begins.

Before yesterday's election, the make-up of Bury Council was as follows:

Conservative - 26
Labour - 16
Liberal Democrat – 9 

A total of 18 seats on the council are available at this election. This is one seat
per ward, with the exception of Pilkington Park – where two seats are available.
