Ramsbottom policing operation hailed a success
Date published: 08 April 2010
Police have praised licensees in Ramsbottom and Tottington for their close co-operation during a special operation to tackle alcohol-fuelled disorder on Bank Holiday Friday.
Thirteen officers carried out high profile police patrols in the area to ensure the large numbers of revellers who gathered to visit the pubs and bars on Good Friday were able to enjoy the holiday atmosphere in peace.
Officers worked closely with licensees to control the numbers of people who were allowed to drink in local pubs and issued three ‘direction to leave’ notices to people whose presence in the area was deemed likely to contribute to alcohol-related disorder.
One person was also arrested for a public order offence.
Inspector Bryn Williams of the Ramsbottom NPT said: “Traditionally, Ramsbottom is the main focus for our Good Friday policing operation, but, this year many people also headed to Tottington which provided an additional challenge to our officers.
“However, our assertive and high-profile policing of the area successfully prevented any large-scale public disorder at an extraordinarily busy time. I would also like to thank the licensees who helped us immensely by closing their doors at our request when we deemed their premises’ to be full.”
