Chocolate Cafe in Westminster

Date published: 08 December 2011

Bury North MP David Nuttall welcomed Paul Morris of Ramsbottom’s Chocolate Cafe to Westminster as part of the Lancashire Day celebrations. Several food and drink producers from across Lancashire were invited to tempt MP’s and staff with their fare.

David Nuttall said: “The Lancashire Day celebration showcased some of the quality produce from across the historic County of Lancashire and it was great to see the Chocolate Cafe from Ramsbottom represented. Everyone was very impressed by their unique chocolate flavours particularly the Manchester Tart flavour!”

The MP’s and exhibitors were joined by Lord Strathclyde the Leader of the House of Lords and Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster. During the event the Bury North MP was invited to read the traditional Lancashire Day declaration.

Afterwards David commented: “As a Yorkshireman I was surprised and delighted to be invited to read out the Lancashire Day Declaration. Proof if it were needed that the War of the Roses is over.”

Visitors could also see the County Championship Trophy won this season by Lancashire County Cricket Club which has been specially taken to Westminster for display at the event.

Lancashire Day is celebrated each year on 27th November. The date marks the summoning of the first elected representatives from Lancashire to Westminster by King Edward I on 27 November 1295.

The Lancashire Day Declaration states:
Know ye also, and rejoice, that by virtue of Her Majesty’s County Palatine of Lancaster, the citizens of the Hundreds of Lonsdale, North and South of the Sands. Amounderness, Leyland, Blackburn, Salford and West Derby are forever entitled to style themselves Lancastrians. Throughout the County Palatine, from the Furness Fells to the River Mersey, from the Irish Sea to the Pennines, this day shall ever mark the peoples’ pleasure in that excellent distinction – true Lancastrians, proud of the Red Rose and loyal to our Sovereign Duke”.
