Bury’s Parliamentary boundaries go on show
Date published: 14 September 2011
Plans to change Bury’s Parliamentary constituency boundaries are now on public inspection.
From Tuesday 13 September the Boundary Commission will be starting a 12-week consultation on its proposals.
Residents can view the proposals at Prestwich Library, Bury Central Library, Ramsbottom Library, Radcliffe Library, Whitefield Library and Bury Town Hall.
Under the proposals, the Bury North constituency would be expanded to incorporate Bradshaw (which is currently in Bolton), while the Bury South constituency will be unchanged.
Mike Kelly, chief executive of Bury Council and returning officer for Bury, said: “I would encourage residents to look at the proposals from the Boundary Commission. It is important that people feel they’ve been consulted and had their say about the proposed changes. The consultation ends on Monday 5 December, so there is plenty of time to comment.”
The Boundary Commission will be holding public hearings on 11/12 October at the Britannia Hotel, Portland Street, Manchester.
The Boundary Commission for England is required to make a formal report by October 2013, and changes will be in place for the next General Election.
