Hazlehurst Community Primary School in Ramsbottom celebrated the grand opening of their new wildlife area yesterday.

The event was attended by Bury FC players Krishnan Patel and Zach Rothwell.

It is also rumoured that somebody resembling Top Gear’s The Stig was at the opening, but Bury Focus cannot confirm or deny it was the real masked driver.

The area, which includes a decking, raised flower beds and a vegetable bed, was funded by the £5,000 prize money they got after winning a competition held by the Costain Group.

The grand opening was a big success. Secretary Lindsay Little said: “It went very well. It was attended by lots of parents and children.

“It was a lovely social event.”

The project was only finished a couple of weeks ago, with the digging of the raised beds.

This in itself was made into an event called a “big dig”.

Children and parents helped out, and a plant was planted for nearly every child in the school.

The wildlife area will be used for science and nature lessons.
