New Year starts well for Radcliffe runners

Radcliffe AC's Donna Cartwright started the new year well with a fifth place among the women in the Ovenden Fell Race at Halifax at weekend.
Fighting against blustering conditions which ripped her number off Cartwright covered the eight miles and 1,200 feet of climbing in 74mins 33secs. Husband Mark also ran the West Yorkshire race and clocked 86mins 14secs.
Dave Bartlett and Kevin McGilvray (V55) were the only two club members to take on the Greater Manchester Cross Country Championships at Woodbank Park, Stockport at weekend. On a tough seven mile course Bartlett was first home for Radcliffe in 55mins 17secs with McGilvray clocking 62mins 48secs.
Over the festive period members ran several events with Donna Cartwright taking a sixth place among the women in the Hot Toddy Road Race at Todmorden on Boxing Day and Sheila Jones coming in second vet 55.Cartwright's daughter Jenna was first under 12 girl in the one mile canal run.
John Kirkham was among 894 competitors in the Ribble Valley 10k, starting off in mist and finishing in warm sunshine, clocking 47mins 36secs.
Ghislaine Brown ran 51mins 10secs in the Whinberry Naze Fell Race at Rawtenstall on Boxing Day, covering four miles and 750 feet of climbing, and Eileen Sharman was first vet 55 in the Joe Salt New Year's Day Multi-Terrain Awakener Race, running just over four miles in 46mins 35secs.
