Parents urged to stop parking illegally
Date published: 01 February 2012
Parents are being urged to stop parking illegally in Prestwich and Whitefield when they ferry their children to and from school.
Inspector Mark Kenny from the Prestwich and Whitefield Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "I am asking Mums and Dads to be more responsible on the school run. Restrictions are in place to ensure the safety of the public, and prevent congestion at peak times
“Through our Surgery and Police and Communities Together (PACT) meetings, my officers have received a number of concerns about inconsiderate parking near to schools.
“In response to this, we are working with our partners in the council and the schools to actively crack down on the problem.”
Drivers who fail to comply with road traffic regulations could face prosecution or even a fine.
Inspector Kenny added: “While I appreciate the need for parents to collect and drop off their children, it causes a great deal of problems - not only due to congestion, but more importantly a safety issue where children cannot be seen by approaching cars. Surely it is worth getting up a few minutes earlier to park a little further away.”
