Date published: 03 October 2011

A man has been left hospitalised by a street assault.

About 11:15pm on Friday 30 September 2011, police received a report that a man had been assaulted at the junction of Polefield Circle and Polefield Approach, Prestwich.

Officers went to the scene and found a 20-year-old man had been victim of a sustained assault by a group of men.

He suffered a number of injuries and was taken to hospital where his condition is currently described as poorly, but stable.

Officers believe a number of people were in the area at the time of the assault and could hold vital information.

Detective Sergeant Chris Jameson, of Bury CID, said: "This man has been severely beaten by a number of men and I am convinced there were people around who could tell me what happened.

"He has been hospitalised by a brutal and sustained assault so we are determined to bring those responsible to justice.

"I understand that sometimes people can be reluctant to speak the police, but this is a serious incident and I would urge people to do the right thing."

Anyone with information is asked to call Bury CID on 0161 856 8150 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
