Prestwich Household Waste Recycling Centre will close today
Reporter: Bury Focus
Date online: 21 September 2011
In June 2011 Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority agreed to rationalise their Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) as part of their ongoing budget cuts.
The following HWRCs will close today (Wednesday 21 September 2011) at 8.00pm (unless otherwise stated):
• Chandos Street, Shaw, Oldham
• Clifton Road, Prestwich, Bury (7pm)
• Peel Lane, Heywood, Rochdale
• Union Road, Bolton
Councillor Neil Swannick, Chair of the Authority said “The Authority did not want to close any sites, but unfortunately financial savings had to be made”.
Within each local area where a site is to be closed, alternative facilities are available either directly from the local Council at the kerbside, or through local bring sites. In most cases there are brand new super sites which can accept up to 23 different types of materials for recycling which are within a short distance from older sites that due to their limited size, have received little or no development.
