Electrical Apprentice is rewarded for hard work

Date published: 10 September 2011

Kiall Brown, age 20 from Prestwich, has recently gained employment as an electrician following the experience he gained on the Bury College Electrical Apprenticeship.

Kiall joined Bury College from Parrenthorn High School on the Level 2 NVQ in Performing Engineering Operations before progressing onto the Apprenticeship to pursue a career as an electrician. Kiall worked with North West company Performance Electrical Limited on renovation work carried out at Bury College. The company were so pleased with his performance they offered him a full-time position.

Kiall said, “I was recommended by my co-worker for this position as a result of my work experience. The Apprenticeship scheme is a good way of getting into a career because you get hands-on experience and learn as you work. You can also earn money too!”

Emma Kavanagh, Training Officer at Performance Electrical, said, “We have an excellent relationship with Bury College. Kiall particularly stood out during his work experience and impressed us over the summer, carrying out additional work. We are very pleased with his appointment as an adult trainee and are extremely happy with his work. It’s wonderful to be able to offer these opportunities to young people.”
