Week 5 brings X-factor to Prestwich
Date published: 08 June 2011
A feast of local talent is at the forefront of events in Week 5 of the Prestwich Festival.
Revellers can start the weekend early by dancing themselves into shape with Zumba on Thursday night (9 June) at the Longfield Suite from 6pm.
A collaboration of music by the Purics of Parrenthorn High School is on offer on Friday, at 7pm. Meanwhile, at the Paragon Theatre at Prestwich Arts College, you can join in the ultimate Sound of Music Sing-along.
On Sunday at noon, the gruelling Prestwich Challenge sets off from Sedgely Park Rugby Club over eight miles of obstacles. Definitely not for the faint hearted, individuals and teams of four can enter. Afterwards, why not relax in St Mary’s Flower Park for a free concert by Radcliffe Brass Band?
Two shows are on offer next Wednesday (15 June) Thursday. The Paragon Theatre hosts a Prestwich has Talent competition with live bands, singers and variety acts judged by professional entertainers. St Margaret’s Tavern in Bury Old Road features a live show of local talent at 7pm followed by an evening of young musicians and singers at 8pm.
Finally, next Thursday (16 June), the Paragon hosts “Bunny La Marr presents” – described as “the awfulness of the X Factor meets the sordid goings on of a dodgy taxi driver”. This joint presentation by Moston Active Drama and FC United starts at 7.30pm.
David Curtis, Prestwich Festival organiser, said: “There is a broad cultural menu on offer this week with a particular emphasis on local home grown talent. Come along and see the stars of tomorrow!”
