Prestwich Festival moves into Week 3

Date published: 26 May 2011

Horses, planes and musical extravaganzas are on offer in Week Three of the Prestwich Festival.

The Bank Holiday weekend entertainment starts on Friday night (27 May) with the Indie Smiths tribute at the Longfield Suite. Meanwhile, model planes will be flying over Simister Village from Saturday to Monday (28-30 May), 10am to 4pm, with trial flights for any would-be pilots.

On Sunday (29 May) the Procession of Horses sets off from the Same Yet Pub in Simister at 11am, going down Simister Lane, Heywood Road, Polefield Road and St Margaret’s Road before returning to Simister. NB: please expect some traffic delays.

League Match cricket starts at 1pm at The Heys, while the Bands in the Parks concert features Besses Boys Band. The free concert begins at 2pm in St Mary’s Flower Park. Bring a picnic and blanket to sit on and enjoy two hours of traditional and contemporary brass band music.

Something a bit different is on offer at Prestwich Pharmacy, Longfield Centre with a Family Open Day. There will be plenty of opportunities for pampering and relaxation before trying out Boxercise at 6pm at the Longfield Suite. This exercise is good fun as well as a great workout.

The Bank Holiday ends with a fabulous classical concert at St Mary’s Church featuring Carlos De Nogueira who will be performing a Spanish, French and Italian programme plus the unique fados folk song from his native Portugal.

David Curtis, Prestwich Festival organiser, said: “This week there is something for everyone and all on your doorstep so there is no excuse for not taking part. All the events are organised by local groups and businesses. Come along and try something different - you will enjoy what is on offer.”
