Festival fever hits Prestwich
Date published: 12 May 2011
Five fabulous weeks of Prestwich Festival 2011 start on Sunday 15 May with the hugely popular Prestwich Clough Day.
This free celebration of Prestwich’s green spaces and folk culture is a great family day out with more than 60 events taking place. These include brass and jazz bands, puppets, food, walks, a falconry display and face painting, not to mention story telling, circus skills, children’s activities, morris men, Punch and Judy, country arts and draft displays and much more!
It all takes place from noon to 5pm at St Mary’s Flower Park and at the Church Inn.
Week One of the festival includes a Bridal Fayre at the Longfield Suite on 15 May, from 11am to 4pm, featuring 25 stalls, music and dance performances plus a glittering fashion show. Meanwhile the pleasure pursuits of local people over the past 100 years are covered in a fascinating Prestwich at Play exhibition at the Heritage Museum, Prestwich Library.
Festival programmes have been delivered to 12,000 homes in Prestwich so that everyone knows what is going on. The programme is also available from Prestwich Library - for the latest news, visit www.prestwichfestival.net
The festival was officially launched on 6 May at Prestwich Arts College. Visitors were entertained by jugglers, stilt walkers, singing and music. Presentations were made to festival sponsors NW Law, Michael Herwald & Co, Ready Steady Store, GLP Solicitors, Oakley Dental and Berry & Berry Law.
Davis Curtis, Prestwich Festival organiser, said: “The festival is a wonderful celebration of everything that is good about living and working in Prestwich. With over 40 events this year there is something for everyone. The sun shone on the festival launch last Friday – a lovely evening with the Mayor of Bury, Ivan Lewis MP and our sponsors. The summer really starts with the Prestwich Clough event which will attract thousands of visitors and really put Prestwich on the map.”
