Bury College students work with local jeweller Peter Jackson

Date published: 30 October 2011

Bury College Foundation Diploma in Art and Design students have been given the unique opportunity to work with local jeweller Peter Jackson on an exciting new project. Students have been asked to create a jewellery design based on an occasion that could be sold as an addition to the current Peter Jackson range.

Former Bury College Art and Design student, Charliee Dart works as a Sales Assistant at Peter Jackson in Bury. Charliee attended Bury College to present the brief to students and give them inspiration for their designs.

The students’ designs will then be judged in the following months, with the winner enjoying the chance to see their design created and put on display for sale in the Bury store.

Managing Director Peter Jackson said, "We are delighted to be involved with this exciting project and look forward to seeing some great designs."

Jess Diggins (18) from Bolton is one of the students taking part. The former pupil of Sharples School said, “It’s a good opportunity to work with local jewellers and gain experience out of the classroom. It has been interesting looking at how art can be applied in different ways.”

The project will also be overseen by Bury College PGDE student Mark McLeish from Heywood. Mark studied BTEC Art and Design and a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design at Bury College before completing a degree in Silversmith and Jewellery at Loughborough University.

Mark said, “This opportunity expands the scope of creativity to industry, which is valuable experience for the students.”
