Yellow Day at Bury College
Date published: 22 October 2011
Students at Bury College raised over £1,690 for Bury Hospice by taking part in activities for Yellow Day. Students were very proactive fundraisers and organised events that included a cake stall by Travel and Tourism students, money raising in the Millgate by Health and Social Care students and sales and competitions by students dressed in yellow.
Candice Ellis (16) from Heywood is studying a Level 1 BTEC Diploma in Travel and Tourism at Bury College. The former pupil of Siddal Moor Sports College organised a cake stall for the day. She said, “I really enjoyed organising the event. It was a great opportunity to help a local charity and, overall, a very rewarding experience.”
Bury Hospice is a registered charity providing end of life and palliative care to people living in Bury who have been diagnosed with a life-limiting disease. The money raised by Bury College will be used to provide on-going support and care to patients and their families.
Michelle King, Community Fundraiser for Bury Hospice, said: “The Bury College students have done themselves and their college proud this week. On both collecting days at the Millgate, the bags of money were so heavy that someone else had to carry them back to the office for me! Bury College students threw themselves into fundraising with such enthusiasm that some managed to fill extra boxes with donations.
"In all the time I have been fundraising, I have never had anyone achieve that before, so well done to them and to everyone who took part. Bury Hospice needs younger people involved with fundraising, because only the young are blessed with limitless energy, creativity and fresh ideas, and we welcome any student who would like to do more fundraising for us. For everyone who is taking part in Yellow Day and for all those who will be involved with the forthcoming programme of fundraising events for Bury Hospice, you have our grateful thanks.”
Bury Hospice currently cares for around 350 patients and their families every year. If you would like to find out more about fundraising opportunities please contact Michelle King on 0161 797 1748.
