Angela Smith, age 48 from Heywood, completed Access Levels 2 and 3 at Bury College and is currently at Salford University studying for a degree in Adult Nursing.
Having always thought about nursing, Angela was inspired to take up the course after caring for a friend. Encouraged by the local district nurses and with the support of friends and family, Angela left her job as an office manager to embark on a new career.
Angela said, “I really love nursing, it’s been hard work but without Bury College I wouldn’t be where I am today. The tutors were really supportive. They were all fabulous. The main thing is to never give up. It’s the best thing I’ve ever done and I’d recommend it to anyone as it really prepared me for university.”
Angela’s daughter Katie was inspired by her determination and positive attitude and aims to follow in her footsteps into a career in nursing. Katie is due to begin the Access Level 3 course at Bury College in September.
