Circus Olympics for local primary school children

Date published: 13 July 2011

Pupils from Holy Trinity Primary school in Bury were treated to a special circus themed sports day at Bury College this term. Level 3 BTEC Sports students from the College organised the sports day, which consisted of circus themed face painting, quizzes and games and an Olympic inspired relay race.

19 students from Bury College took part in the event, which involved arranging face painting by Bury College Beauty students; booking the Playfootball all weather pitch; purchasing lunch for all the pupils; and preparing all the quizzes and games for the day. The event was planned and executed as part of the students’ course.

The Holy Trinity primary school pupils were split into five teams for the Circus Olympics and undertook a relay type race, which was won by the red team.

Bury College student Portia Moore, a former pupil of Bury Church of England High School was enlisted as the Marketing Officer for the event. She said: “The school children really enjoyed the face painting as it was something different. We also had medals and certificates made up for them for taking part.”

Deputy Head teacher and Year 6 tutor at Holy Trinity Primary School, Linda Parkinson, was thrilled with the day: “It’s been absolutely fantastic, the Bury College students have worked so hard for us with a lovely range of activities, which suits those pupils that are interested in sport as well as those not so interested. This meant that everyone one of our pupils felt included in the day.”
