Kit arrives ready for the start of summer rugby
Date published: 15 January 2012
Bury Broncos amateur rugby league club are embarking on the next stage of their club development plans as they expand into junior sides and look to grow the whole club further. From 2012, the Broncos will be a summer only club with both the juniors and open age sides playing their games through the summer months only.
The club formed around four years ago and have played four seasons as an open age club. Last week, the club took delivery of their first ever junior kit, sponsored by Bolton and Bury Media Group with some funding provided by Sport England.
Speaking about the delivery, junior coach Chris Seymour said: “We’re really grateful for the sponsorship and are looking forward to playing matches from March. The kids absolutely love the new kit and the next challenge is getting some more so we can look to run more junior sides.”
The club are running an Under 11s side, and Under 9s side and also an Under 7s training group which mean they are catering for all primary school groups from Yr2 to Yr6.
Training is usually Wednesday evenings and also on Sunday mornings over upcoming months. It is all part of a wider project to spread the game of rugby league in an area where it has not been particularly strong.
Speaking about the plans, Mike Palin said: “An open age team operated in the 1980s and did very well and we recently came across a pack of photos from those days. The new club however is all about participation and we exist to try and give everyone a chance to play the game. There is a community coach in schools supported by Swinton Lions and we hope to be making some more announcements over the next few weeks but it’s a really exciting time for us.”
The club are interested in anyone who might want to be involved with the club. The club AGM meeting will be on February 3rd, 7.15pm at Stand Cricket Club, Whitefield and anyone is welcome.
There is lots of information available on the club website at www.burybroncos.co.uk
The Broncos are also interested in anyone wanting to give the game a try. Anyone interested in the junior sides can contact Chris on 07979544785 and any open age players wanting to play can contact Paul on 07979027053.
Junior training starts on March 11th, open age training starts April 21st.
