Raising funds 'for those worse off than ourselves'

KSD Karate, Prestwich have been raising money for a Cancer charity.

Club Administrator Sharon and Social Secretary Claire started the raising funds ‘for those worse of than ourselves’.

They decided, along with the club chief instructor to raise money for two charities per year, both running for six months, December to May, June to November.

All members of the club will be asked vote for one charity for the club to raise money for in the next six months.

Their first KSD charity was Cancer Recovery. With the help of club supporter Jo they held a raffle which was drawn at the end of the year.

Donations for the raffle included a huge cuddly toy Andrex dog, a stack of 5 boxes containing chocolates, cookies, fudge & toffee, a rose wine gift set, bubble bath gift set, and a huge cuddly tiger.

Hair by Tomasina donated a white cuddly bear gift set containing chocolates and a bottle of wine and Ed Hardy donated hair straightners.

KSD donated 3months free karate as a prize & 1 month’s free karate plus free licence, free karate suit, free sparring set.

With just over a week to arrange the raffle they raised £174.43. KSD Chief Instructor rounded this figure off to £200,

Darren Barber, KSD Sensei said: “What a great start to the fundraising and we thank everyone for being kind at this time of year, we know times are hard.

“KSD want to thank everyone for buying tickets in our first ever fund raiser, the monies raised will sent to Cancer Recovery and fund raising will continue for this worthy cause, more sponsored events coming soon.”
