Great turnout for Red Rose League event

Date published: 15 November 2011

Radcliffe AC had yet another great turnout in Saturday's Red Rose League cross country event.

For a small club they managed to field fourteen men and six women for the league's third race out of four in good but muddy conditions at Leverhulme Park, Bolton.

It was Donna Cartwright who led the Radcliffe women home, finishing a fine 15th out of 108 competitors, putting her fourteenth on points after three races.

Ann Marie McGilvray was next home followed by vet-45 Kath Davies and Rachael Stoney. Eileen Sharman was third vet-55 followed by Denise Kay (V45). The women were tenth team out of 16.

Stu Sharp was first among the men in a creditable 41st out of a large field of 257 runners.

He was followed by Mark Williams (V45): Steve Lomax: Dave Bartlett: Rob Andrew: Don Whiley (V45): David Wells: Kevin McGilvray (V55): George Critchley (V50): Mark Wolfenden: Mark Cartwright (V40): Mark Murphy (V40): John Young (V60) and Mark Emmett (V50), who slipped and pulled his back near to the finish. The men were 11th team out of 16.

On the road George Critchley clocked 1hr 49mins 08secs in the recent Lancaster Half Marathon.
