Draw made for the winter Riley Cup competition

Date published: 03 November 2011

Six teams have put themselves forward for the Rochdale and District Riley Cup Competition that will run between November and February to keep clubs ticking over to the new summer season, as well as provide Winter based teams the chance to reignite local rivalries.

Whitworth Spartans, Hopwood Hall College and Bolton Mets are not included in the draw as they have decided to concentrate on League fixtures while Bury Broncos are taking a break before the summer season after playing back to back winter/summer seasons.

The draw was conducted by current Scotland International and Bolton Community Coach John Duffy at Bolton Councils Paderborn House.

Group A sees Bolton based Westhoughton Lions take on Rochdale Cobras and the newcomers Bolton University.

The University will be an unkown quantity as they have little game experience, after only forming in September this year. Westhoughton Lions should be in their peak as they are currently plying their trade in the winter based North West Counties competition while Rochdale Cobras should be raring to go, after sitting out the interim season in preperation for the summer based North West Mens League.

Group B pairs both Mayfield teams (Alliance and Academy) against Penine League stalwarts Littleborough.

Club rivalries will be feirce as both Mayfield teams come head to head in Castleton, while Littleborough look to test out the newly graduated under 17s in open age competition.

The full playing schedule is as follows:

1st Group Games
To be played by 12th December
Westhoughton Lions Vs Rochdale Cobras
