Scully 13’s Rugby League Half Term Camp hits Bury
Date published: 29 October 2011
October half term saw a Scully 13 Rugby League Skills & Development Camp held at Philips High School, Bury. The children enjoyed an action packed two days filled with games and activities to improve their Rugby League skills.
14 children, aged 5-12, attended the first day of camp which began with warm up relay races before moving onto tackling and kicking games.
For many of the children it was their first experience of tackling but they all got ‘stuck in’ and impressed the coaches with how quickly they picked up the skill.
Scully 13 have been introducing Rugby League in local primary schools and it was good to see the transfer from the primary schools to the camp. There was a good turn out of children from Bury Broncos Juniors and the local club also provided open age players to support the Scully 13 coaches.
The second day of camp gave the children the opportunity to further their newly learned skills and all of the children received a Scully 13 t-shirt for their efforts over the two days.
The camp was supported by Bolton, Bury and Rochdale Rugby League Development Group and Swinton Lions.
Bury Community Rugby League Coach and coach at Bury Bronco Juniors, Jenny Welsby, said “The camp was a great success with a mix of children from Bury Broncos and new faces from local primary schools.”
“The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves and those new to the sport were all excited to further their skills and join those already at the Broncos.”
All of the children have been invited to join Bury Broncos Juniors who train on Wednesday evening 6-7pm. The Broncos juniors are currently recruiting new players before the start of the summer season in March.
