Date published: 24 September 2011

Three floodlit state-of-the-art tennis courts are sure to be a smash at Broad Oak Sports College and Sports Centre.

The new courts, built to Lawn Tennis Association specifications, complete the school’s £250,000 investment programme to secure the finest sports facilities for its pupils, community and residents throughout Bury, all year round. The centre also now boasts the finest 5-a-side Astroturf facilities and indoor sports hall in the area.

Students at Broad Oak use the facilities during the day, and Bury Council’s Leisure Service runs them in the evenings and at weekends for the benefit of the local community and sports clubs. These facilities include:

  • floodlit Astroturf football pitches,
  • three Lawn Tennis Association specification tennis courts,
  • a large sports hall for badminton and trampolining,
  • dance and aerobics studio,
  • meeting and conference rooms.

Opening times are: Monday to Friday, 6pm to 10pm; Saturdays, 9am to 1pm.; Sundays, subject to demand.

Neil O’Connor, head teacher at Broad Oak, said: “This latest investment re-affirms Broad Oak’s commitment to providing our students with the very best opportunities to excel in both the academic and sporting arenas.”

Councillor Jane Lewis, executive member for leisure, tourism and culture, said: “These are top-quality facilities which are available to everyone, and I’m sure they will be welcomed and well-used by the local community.”
