Help to keep health on track

Date published: 05 February 2012

Research shows that most people have given up on their new year’s resolutions by now, resorting back to unhealthy living.

Whilst around 50% of people make resolutions, 88% of them fail.

The most common pledges people make are giving up smoking, losing weight, exercising more or reducing how much they drink, but the pressures of everyday life make it difficult for some people to keep their promise.

“We always get a lot of people wanting to improve their health and lifestyle at the start of the year, but often their motivation and interest starts to wane as the weeks go on,” said Nikki Robinson Health Trainer Service Manager for Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust.

“Our Health Trainers are specially trained to help people improve their health and lifestyle, such as by losing weight, exercising more, eating more healthily and stopping smoking. Changing your lifestyle isn’t easy, but we can help formulate a realistic plan and structure so that you have more chance of success.”

There are a range of healthy lifestyle services in the area that can support people to stay on track with New Year’s resolutions to get healthier. The Health Trainer Service can provide people with one on one advice and support to help them achieve their goals. Health Trainers will help people to identify what changes they need to make and how they can do it, by signposting, where appropriate, to other local services.
