Helping those with dementia
Date published: 20 July 2010
More than 500 people sought advice from council staff during an event to mark Dementia Awareness Week.
Around 2,000 people in Bury live with dementia, so the adult care services team held an information stall in the Mill Gate centre, funded through the Age of Opportunities scheme, to offer advice and support.
This year’s week of action had the theme “Remember the Person”. The team wanted people to think about anyone they knew who has dementia and how they could do simple things to make their life more manageable and enjoyable.
Adult care services worked in partnership with dementia advisors, dignity champions, NHS Bury, service users and professionals.
