Breastfeeding support for Bury mums
Date published: 08 April 2010
Seven local mums have graduated as breastfeeding “peer supporters” following a course at Woodbank with Elton Children’s Centre.
Three children’s centre staff, two health trainers and an infant feeding support worker also took part in the weekly sessions to achieve the qualification.
The course was run in collaboration with Ramsbottom Children’s Centre.
During the 12-week La Leche League course, the women learned the benefits of breastfeeding and practical tips on how to support mothers who want to breastfeed or may be experiencing problems.
As peer supporters, the mums will be able to offer support in the “Baby Bistro” groups at Bury’s children’s centres. These groups offer information and support on all aspects of breastfeeding to pregnant women and new mums.
Woodbank with Elton Children's Centre will be running a Baby Bistro every Thursday from April 15, from 10.45am to noon. This will coincide with the child health clinic that runs each Thursday from the centre. For more information, call the centre on 0161 253 7727.
Ramsbottom Children’s Centre Baby Bistro runs on Monday mornings at the Pentecostal Church from 11.30am to 12.30pm. For more information call the centre on 01706 283559.
Both groups will run on a “drop in” basis and will be free of charge.
