New Interim Chief Executive to join NHS Bury

John Boyington will be joining NHS Bury as Interim Chief Executive from April 1, initially for a six month period. Mike Burrows, current Interim Chief Executive and also Chief Executive of NHS Salford will resume his full time commitments in Salford at this time.

John is an experienced and accomplished NHS Manager. He started his NHS career in Sheffield as a pre-nursing student before training as a nurse and spending much of his early working life in the mental health service eventually becoming Chief Nurse Adviser to the Sheffield Health Authority. John has held senior management posts in commissioning and provider management in the NHS and prior to joining the Civil Service in 2000 he was Chief Executive for the mental health and community services in Leicestershire. Until 2007 John was Deputy Director General for Health and Care Partnerships within the Department of Health in England and Director of Health and Offender Partnerships, a joint post working across the Department of Health and the Ministry of Justice, a unique cross Government appointment. John recently chaired a year-long Commission to review mental health services across the north west of England which produced its report "A better future in mind" in October 2009. John was awarded the CBE in the 2007 New Year Honours list for services to health.

Speaking of the Interim appointment, John said: "I am really looking forward to working with colleagues in NHS Bury. Mike has done a tremendous job helping to keep NHS Bury on track and I will take up where he left off - moving forward to improve the health and services for Bury people."

Kathy Reade, NHS Bury Interim Chair stated: "We are fortunate to have someone of John's calibre working with us here in Bury at this critical time. I have every confidence that John will carry on the good work that Mike has set in motion as we enter the next important phase of our future."
