Whitefield amp; Unsworth Local Area Partnership (LAP) has provided over pound;10,000 funding to community groups this year for a variety of projects including an ecology project, IT youth scheme, rock climbing, IT community learning, healthy eating project, graffiti cleaning and a security cabin.
Two cheques were presented to local groups last week by Chair of the LAP, Councillor Bernie Vincent.
First he visited Elms Allotment Holders Association which received a pound;1200 Community Development Fund grant to purchase a security container to safely store tools and machinery. The Association had problems with vandalism and thefts but now all their equipment is safely stored away.
He later delivered a cheque for pound;3,632 to Elms Community Centre to kick-start their central heating appeal.
Mavis Warner, from Elms Community Centre, said, ldquo; We struggle in winter to keep the centre warm -the electrical heaters are inefficient and very expensive. We are hoping to raise enough funds to install gas central heating. This is such a welcome contribution from the Partnership”.
Councillor Vincent said; ldquo; We’ve funded a variety of projects all of which encourage people to get active in their neighbourhoods. These projects make an important contribution to the area and I am very pleased the Partnership has been able to assist and I wish them every success in the future.”
