Date online: 22 February 2008

Theatre fans will be able to choose their own ticket price for Gest, a 24 hour celebration of physical theatre to take place at The Met on the 14 and 15 March.

The scheme, the first for The Met, is designed make physical theatre more accessible for those who are curious and want to try something new, and gives them the opportunity to pay as little or as much as they like for each show.

Gest incorporates five shows from Friday night to Saturday afternoon. Ticket holders can choose from a range of theatre from family friendly favourites Space 50 and Muttnik by solo performer Niki McCretton to theatre accessible for deaf people, Gin and Tonic and Passing Trains by Spike theatre and award winning deaf performer Ramesh Meyyappan. The day will also feature a work in progress from Boojum called Peacock Boy, and will end on a high with Shifting Sands dynamic and hilarious take on Film noir…Clown Noir! Or of course you can see all five!

David Agnew, Director of The Met comments, The Met hosts small scale companies throughout the year who are typical of festivals such as the Edinburgh Fringe. We wanted to create a day of non-stop, fun and stimulating high quality theatre so audiences can switch off and tune into performances that excite all the senses and offer something completely different.

"Gest is about sampling different, bitesize theatre in small (1 hour) performances that will delight audiences from all ages and backgrounds. The idea of offering pay what you can is part of The Met’s commitment to opening up to local communities and our certainty that there really is something for everyone in the programme."

Only 20% of the seats for each show will be sold on a pay what you want basis. Once the allocation has been sold tickets can be purchased at full price, £10 or £6 for concessions. Peacock Boy will be free with any other tickets purchased.
