Forever Bury Beer Festival
Reporter: Ask Bury
Date online: 27/02/2008
It's finally here.....The 4th Forever Bury Beer Festival!!!!! With the first three Festivals having raised over £25,000 for the Shaker's cause it's now all about our next one as the set up starts at 8.00am on Monday and will carry on all day and every day until the doors are thrown open to the public on Thursday 28th February at 4.00pm.
With record sponsorship of £7,566.00 already secured it looks highly likely that overall profits will clear £10,000 and may, if we get enough people through the doors, actually top £11,000.
The main sponsors for the event are once again the giant online company, Globet who are based in Gibraltar but will still be flying over for the event. Former Bury players are also involved with all time Shakers legend Chris Lucketti once again sponsoring a beer and also hoping to be there to sample a few of the beers. Team mate Paddy Kenny, another Gigg Lane favourite, has also stepped forward to sponsor a beer. Even though David Nugent is going through a tough time at Portsmouth and may be loaned out, he hasn't forgotten the hardworking fans at Gigg and he's sponsoring a couple of beers.
The Festival kicks off on Thursday 28th February which is also the anniversary of Les Hart's birthday. Les spent a 44 year association with the club as player, physio and even manager, only broken by the Second World War. To mark the occasion, all unsponsored beers will bear a picture of Les with the wording " To the memory of Les Hart". One of the acts on the night will be his grandson, Jordan, and it's hoped that everyone there will raise their glass in a toast to honour Les. Manchester band "Marry Another" are also doing a set.
The Friday session starts at noon and in the evening "Marry Another" are once again heading the line up. With this being leap year day - the 29th. We're looking for any young ladies that would like to talk their partner into coming down so that they can actually propose to him at the Festival, I mean he can't possibly turn down a Beer Festival and if he does, he can't be worth it any way.
Saturday, St David's Day, and we are definitely not eating daffodils, but the session kicks off at noon with the early live TV game on the giant screen to be followed later by the evening kick off live match. It's highly probable that we will have at least four acts on during the evening including "The Would Be Emperors".
So much entertainment, so much beer and all it costs is £3 to get in (£2 for card carrying CAMRA members). There's also hot food available at all sessions excluding Thursday and all beers are priced at £2. It's been organised by the hardworking volunteers of Forever Bury, the fan's Trust and every single penny raised will help the Shaker's cause. So come on down, regardless of who you support, please feel free to wear your club colours, all we ask is that you respect that everyone is there to enjoy a Beer Festival so we won't tolerate any singing or chanting.
Including the continental Bottle Bar with some 40 different mainly German and Belgian beers there are about 3,500 pints to be drunk. Have we enough drinkers in the region who would like to do their bit by sampling some of the superb brews and having some fun? I'm sure we have, we're Northern lads and lassies not Southern softies. So please get yourselves down to the Bury FC Social Club on Gigg Lane in Bury.
