Get Online at Bury Libraries

Date published: 20 June 2008

Bury Library Service are encouraging local people to get on line at the library and try out some fantastic resources for free at three drop-in sessions throughout the year.

These free sessions are designed to allow anyone to pop in to their local library and access some fantastic information about their family history, famous faces in history and art work at a click of a button.

Resources include Ancestry.com, the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, Grove Art and Grove Music.

Ancestry.com helps individuals find out more about their family tree by looking back at census information from as early as the 1800's to locate distant relatives.

The Oxford Dictionary of National Biography lists 55,000 different people, both past and present, who have been influential or important to society so you can find out more about them.

Grove Art and Grove Music on-line are huge encyclopedias covering the fine art and music. Grove Art includes biographies of all the world's great artists and links to images of their major works. Similarly Grove Music includes in depth histories of the great composers and also includes sound files showing, for instance, what melody and harmony are.

There will be three drop-in events held at:

. Prestwich Library and Adult Learning Centre on 22 July, 10.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m.
. Whitefield Library and Adult Learning Centre on 1 September, 10.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. . Radcliffe Library on 7 October at Radcliffe Library, 10.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m.
