Bury's response to the TIF
Date published: 09 June 2008
The announcement today still has congestion charging at its heart and that is "very disappointing and unacceptable" says Bob Bibby, Council Leader.
Whilst there is considerable and welcome investment for Manchester as a whole, the Bury element is minimal. Of course, there will be more destinations for Bury people, and the double trams at peak times are because the trams are currently packed. After that there is little in it for Bury, even the extra buses to Pilsworth are irrelevant as the bowling and cinema moves to the Town Centre in 2010.
"It is disappointing that the work to access the feasibility of the Rawtenstall to Bury commuter train is not complete. An announcement promising funding for that would have made a difference." says Bob Bibby. "Before we make a decision we will have to see what the people of Bury say in the consultation exercise due to be completed on 10 October. There needs to be more in the TIF for Bury."
