Three charged with Firearms Offences

Three people have been charged with firearms offences after officers recovered a sawn off shotgun and hundreds of rounds of ammunition after raids in Bury.

Wayne Catterall (born 24/02/84) of Swallow Drive, Bury, Errol Lloyd Tudor (born 03/06/64) of Steps Meadow, Rochdale and Michel Maurice Metcalf (born 06/05/59) of Calf Hey Close, Radcliffe, have all been charged with possessing and supplying ammunition. Catterall has also been charged with possession of a firearm and aiding and abetting the supply of ammunition.

All three were arrested after officers from GMP’s Bury division executed warrants at addresses on Swallow Drive, Bury and Calf Hey Close, Radcliffe and an armed strike was conducted by officers on a Fiat Punto on Ainsworth Road, Bury.

Metcalf and Catterall were charged yesterday, Monday 28 April 2008, and appeared at Bury Magistrates’ Court this morning, Tuesday 29 April 2008.

Tudor was charged today and is due to appear at Bury Magistrates’ Court this afternoon.

Detective Inspector Lynne Vernon of Bury CID said: “I would like to reassure residents in Bury that we are investigating thoroughly information we are receiving from the community. Thanks to this information we have been able to take dangerous weapons off the streets.

”I would appeal to anyone that has any information about gun crime in the area to come forward and speak to police as we will act on the information you give us.”
