Energy Show House Extends its Hours to Encourage Green Living

Reporter: Ask Bury
Date online: 31 March 2008

With fears rising over fuel prices and the Government's drive to encourage homes to become more energy efficient, Bury Council has decided to increase the opening hours of its Energy Show House.

This follows results from recent customer satisfaction surveys, which identified that people would like a wider choice of when they can visit for energy efficiency advice and information on grants available to help fund insulation measures.

From 1 April the Show House at 150 Willow Street, Bury will open on Tuesdays from 9.30am to 12.30pm, Wednesdays from 1.30pm to 4.30pm and Thursdays between 9.30am and 12.30pm. To accommodate people who are unable to visit during normal office hours due to work commitments, the Energy Team can offer individual appointments if necessary.

The Energy Show House is packed with information and displays to show what can be done to make homes warmer, reduce fuel costs and help the environment. There's plenty of financial help around for homeowners and private tenants, such as free insulation and heating improvements for those in receipt of certain benefits and free cavity wall insulation and loft insulation, where there is less than 15mm or 1½" of existing material, for people aged over 70. There are also partial grants for people who do not fall into these categories with insulation measure from as little as £147 for most houses.

The Energy Team can give telephone advice any weekday during normal office hours on 0161 253 6366/6367.
