Whitefield and Unsworth Area Board have recently funded a gardening learning course which culminated in the design and implementation of a new floral display at the Elms Community Centre in Whitefield.
The gardening project involved pupils at St Michaels School who helped the gardening amateurs grow plants for the garden in the community green house.
The course was organised by Elms Tenants and Residents Association who will be holding the first Elms in Bloom gardening competition later this month (June).
Tony Robinson from the Council’s Adult and Community Learning team said: ldquo; The hanging baskets and flower beds were only finished this week and they look really terrific. They have completely transformed this otherwise neglected and shady spot on the estate.”
Councillor Michelle Wiseman Area Board Chair said: ldquo; The new gardens at Elms Community Centre look really great, it’s obvious that the skills the pupils learnt on the course have been invaluable not only to them but also to the people who can now enjoy the fantastic displays.”
