Bury Markets has been named as location of the month by Manchester Film Office, the regional screen promotional agency for the North West.
The film office has recognised the markets as a prime location for filming following its host of national appearances including: Channel 4’s location, location, location show, the Paul O Grady show, Radio Four Woman’s Hour, BBC1 News and Channel 4 News just two weeks ago.
The aim of the agency is to promote Manchester to film and television companies and raise a positive profile of the region, encouraging inward investment into the local economy. Part of North West Vision, the agency also manages film offices in Liverpool, Lancashire, Cheshire and Cumbria providing a free film liaising service to production companies and filmmakers.
Susan Williams, Film Liaison Officer from the Film Agency said: "Bury Market makes an ideal location for filming and has already notched up 53 filming days this year compared to 16 last year. In monetary terms, this translates to an estimated inward investment value of over a million pounds".
Councillor Mike Connolly Executive Member for Resource and Performance said: "Bury has gained much praise for its fantastic buildings, well kept green spaces and visitor attractions such as the East Lancashire Steam Railway and the award – winning and well managed, Bury Markets. We are delighted that our reputation is spreading and that we have companies like the Manchester Film Office helping us to promote our borough."
