Ramsbottom residents take camera action

Residents in Ramsbottom are to start a speed camera campaign on 3rd March as part of a joint campaign with Greater Manchester Traffic Police, Burysafe and Ramsbottom area board to combat speeding motorists in the area.
Residents are so angry with the troublesome motorists riding through the town, in particular Nuttall lane and Whittingham Drive, that they are running their own speed watch campaign. Everyone involved will be using police speed guns to monitor motorists and the culprits caught speeding will be referred to Greater Manchester Police who will review full details of anyone driving over the speed limits and send out letters to the illegal speeders.
During the training residents will learn how to use equipment, special techniques to catch offenders and how to record full speeding incidents. Everyone involved will also be given full uniform (high visibility jacket) and equipment with ongoing support from the local police community support officers.
The residents speed camera campaign will run on a voluntary basis starting on March 3 and will be ongoing until further notice. More specific dates will be set once the campaign is up and running.
Bryn Williams, Area Inspector of Ramsbottom, Tottington and North Manor said: quot; The residents here in Ramsbottom are determined to stop people speeding and are doing something positive to resolve the problems; hopefully this campaign will inspire more people to come forward to help continue the good work."
Councillor Tony Isherwood, Executive Member for Safe, Strong, and Confident Communities said: quot; There is a real sense of community in Ramsbottom and this initiative proves this. The residents are a shining example to us all in working together to help fight crime and tackle issues such as speeding."
