Bury youngsters aged 11 to 18 are being given the chance to get involved in the United Kingdom Youth Parliament (UKYP).
A briefing event will be held on Tuesday May 29 at the Elizabethan Suite, Bury Town Hall from 11 until 3. Young people will learn about UKYP and our local election and get assistance with writing a manifesto.
Bury is entitled to have one Member of Youth Parliament (MYP) and two deputies, they will represent the views of Bury young people at UKYP meetings..
Other young people who express an interest but are not elected will be able to join local youth democracy groups in Bury including the Area Youth Action groups for the six areas of the borough.
UKYP is a national organisation including elected representatives from every local authority in the country. Members of UKYP campaign to make positive changes for other young people across the country.
Bury’s Member of youth Parliament will debate with young people locally in Bury, at North West Regional meetings and nationally at the UKYP Annual Sitting.
Newly elected Leader of Bury Council Bob Bibby said: "This is a very real chance for young people to get their views across to adults in power and take part in Bury’s own UKYP election".
