Call for entries for Elms in Bloom 2007

Entries are still being welcomed for the lsquo;Elms in Bloom’ gardening competition as it hots-up for it’s second year.

The contest is organised by the Elms Tenants amp; Residents Association, and is open to everyone, regardless of their garden’s size.

Award categories range from best back garden, front garden, patio/backyard, community, children’s, tub, hanging basket, to best environmentally friendly garden.

Competition organiser Joan Grimshaw said; ldquo;You don’t have to be an expert or have a big garden ndash; just a little knowledge and effort goes a long way. Many people in the area have lovely gardens. We want to celebrate this and encourage other people to make best use of their gardens”.

The closing date for entries is Monday 9th July and Judging will take place on 28th amp; 29th July. Prizes will be awarded by the Mayor at the Elms Community Centre on 8th September.

The competition will be judged by local experts, Yvonne and David Moore, winners of Bury in Bloom 2005.

The project has been funded with a Cleaner, Greener, Safer grant from Whitefield amp; Unsworth Area Board.

Area Board Chair, Councillor Bernie Vincent said; quot;I am delighted that the Area Board is supporting this project. This is a great way to brighten up the area and make private and public green space attractive for the benefit for the community”.
