Go online and keep youngsters e-safe

Date published: 07 February 2012

The online world is now part of everyday life for adults and children alike, helping them to stay in touch like never before.

However, it is essential that young people and especially their parents and carers need to be aware of the risks and to understand how to reduce those risks.

Bury Safeguarding Children Board (BSCB) is working closely with the police, Bury Council, children’s centres and schools to educate and protect children about the safer use of the internet and mobile phones.

The BSCB is supporting an event on Tuesday 7 February, co-ordinated by the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP). This is called the “Parents’ Guide to the Internet” safer internet day – go to https://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/Parents

All schools from Bury and from around the country have been invited to be involved on this day and work with parents on the safeguarding of their children in this modern technological world.

CEOP leads the field in online protection by giving advice and training to professionals who work with children on e-safety. Schools already have policies in place over children’s access to the internet and the use of mobile phones on school grounds. Teachers receive regular safeguarding children training, which incorporates training on e-safety issues which may arise in school.

Following the 7 February event, BSCB is holding a series of information evenings on e-safety, to which all parents are invited. The list of times and venues is below – please contact the relevant centre to book your place if you wish to attend:
